Funtakeep
Funtakeep (also known as Pantakip or “To Cover”) is a mysterious and elusive figure in the Enchanted World lore, often categorized as a transient being or Stranger—a term used for otherworldly entities who do not originate from the known Realms. His presence is marked by veils of mist, forgotten memories, and the quiet hush that follows a passing storm.
Origins
Very little is known about Funtakeep’s true origin. Legends say he drifted into the Enchanted World on a twilight wind, arriving from a dimension veiled behind the Curtain of Unseen Things. Some accounts call him a guardian of concealment, a keeper of secrets, or even a fragment of the Enchanted World’s subconscious. His name, “Pantakip,” derives from an ancient tongue meaning to cover—a clue to his nature and power.
Appearance and Behavior
Funtakeep appears as a tall, cloaked figure with a face that changes depending on the viewer’s past. To some, he’s a comfort; to others, a haunting. His cloak is stitched from shadows and threads of memory, constantly shifting in color and pattern. He rarely speaks, but when he does, his voice is said to carry the sound of falling leaves and fading dreams.
He moves silently, often leaving behind tokens—like feathers, masks, or blank scrolls—that hold latent enchantments, often connected to healing, forgetting, or hiding. Many believe he wanders not out of purpose, but as part of a curse or vow.
Powers and Symbolism
Funtakeep wields the Veilcraft, a subtle and ancient art that manipulates concealment, camouflage, and emotional fog. He can obscure paths, shield others from detection, or suppress painful memories. Unlike most enchanters, he doesn’t erase—he buries, softly.
Symbolically, Funtakeep represents protection through obscurity, the beauty of the unseen, and the wisdom of selective truth. In rituals, he is invoked when one wishes to hide from danger, cover a secret, or soften a memory.
Role in the Enchanted World
While neutral in the great struggles of the Realms, Funtakeep has been known to intervene at turning points. He is whispered to have shielded the Grove of Slumber from the Burning Eclipse, and it is said that he once taught the Dreamwalkers how to slip unseen between worlds.
Despite his occasional aid, some distrust him. A popular saying goes: “When Pantakip visits, something is meant to be forgotten.”
